OSAS - State Testing

State assessments are more than a requirement; they’re a tool that helps students, teachers, and schools understand learning in meaningful ways. For students, preparing for and engaging in the Oregon Statewide Assessment (OSAS) provides opportunities to apply critical thinking, problem solving, and reasoning skills in new contexts, strengthening the very abilities they will rely on in future academic and real-world situations. For teachers and schools, assessment results offer clear insight into what students know and can do, where they may need support, and which instructional strategies are most effective. In this way, the assessments empower students by giving them a chance to demonstrate their learning, reflect on their growth, and build confidence in their skills. They empower staff by providing actionable information that informs instruction, resource allocation, and schoolwide improvement efforts. The benefit isn’t simply in taking the test—it’s in how the preparation, performance, and data work together to strengthen learning, teaching, and long-term readiness. However, if you would like your student to opt out of this year's state assessment, please complete the following form to bring to your meeting with the principal: OSAS Opt-out English and OSAS Opt-out Spanish.
