Another option for students that want to pursue opportunities in the military and go to college is attending a service academy. These academies are highly competitive and offer full tuition paid, including books, room and board, and medical/dental care. When you graduate from a military academy, you will have a Bachelor of Science degree in a specified field. Graduates must serve five years in the respective branch of their service academy as an officer.
In order to be considered for admission to one of the five service academies, you must meet the criteria in the following areas:
- High school academic rigor and performance
- SAT or ACT test scores
- Extracurricular activities (including sports)
- Experience in leadership and community service
- A congressional letter of recommendation (varies from service academy)
